Lesson No 41: 2020, Here We Come!
The Queen of Hearts: The Confessions of An ‘Accidental’ Leader
I didn’t purpose to be in the space that I find myself in. God plucked me from the path that I had set out for myself & set me on an alternative journey. At the start it all appeared somewhat ‘accidental’ but I know now that it was no accident, rather His design, His purpose for my life…
So now that I am here, these are my confessions…the lessons I am learning about being a woman in business, building an empire, one brick at a time…
Lesson No 41: 2020 Here We Come!
The heart of human excellence often begins to beat when you discover a pursuit that absorbs you, frees you, challenges you, or gives you a sense of meaning, joy, or passion.

It was an honor to be amongst the 100 women in business finalists from across East Africa for the Invest2Impact competition.
I am not going to be one of those who says, I didn’t really want to apply & win or that I threw together my application. I would be lying. I did want to win, and I did actually apply myself when I submitted my application.
As 2019 closes, I have been looking ahead to 2020 & thinking about how I can focus & channel my energy to strengthen my business. I have been asking myself questions like – what next? How do I take it a notch higher? How do I take a leap forward towards my Big Hairy Audacious Goal? Those who know me well will know that I am on a mission to fire myself – so how do I make sure that my business is ready for that transition? Those are the kind of questions that keep me awake at night.
I applied for the Invest2Impact competition, because I felt it would provide the tools that will help me move closer to my goal.
Before a farmer can harvest, she must prepare the soil, plant the seed, add manure or fertiliser, weed & protect the crop – and maybe even more. Why is it then that we believe a sustainable business can be grown overnight? It takes blood, sweat & tears – and even more blood, sweat & tears.
I have learned that building a sustainable enterprise is a journey of a thousand steps. I have crazy goals for my business – goals that scare me sometimes, goals that will take every one of those one thousand steps to acheive. That said, I believe that if your goals don’t scare you, they are an insult to the God who created you.
As I look ahead to 2020, I am ready to step it up a notch. I am looking forward to the support that will be provided by the Invest2Impact program – I know it’s just what the doctor ordered.
Emotional Intelligence is about being more aware, more intentional & more purposeful. It’s not enough to know, to be aware of what needs to be done. I must be intentional about my purpose & align my daily actions with my overall goal.
2020, here I come! I am ready for what you have in store for me!
With Love,
The Queen Of Hearts
